About Pythagoras

Pythagoras of Samos was a Greek mathematician in 500 B.C. He was well known for proving that the formula for the hypotenuse of a triangle was always usable, no exceptions, no strings attached. This formula was used before, by a group called the Sumarians, but Pythagoras was the one who proved it true. He was a relatively famous man, I deduce this from the fact that he had a group of followers, not unlike the disciples of Jesus. They led very simple and "pure" lives, wearing only the simplest of clothes and no shoes. This belief was influenced by Egyptian priests, whom he saw during his travels. He also ran a school, in Crotone, but back in Pythagoras' time, it was simply known as Croton. He also began a school in Samos called the Semicircle.  The mathematical formula he proved was named for him, it is called the Pythagorean Theorem.
