The Pythagorean Theorem

Pythagoras' Theorem is usually learned in the end of seventh grade, well, that's when I learned it, and this is the way it works. First, designate 2 of the shorter sides of the right triangle "a" and "b". The longest side, or hypotenuse, is "c". Now, figure out the length of sides ''a'' and "b". Square them. Now, the formula for the Pythagorean Theorem is "a squared plus b squared equals c squared." I wrote it out because my host website does not let me create superscript. Now, find the square root of the sum on a calculator, and voila! You have the length of the hypotenuse! It may seem hard when you start out, but trust me, it becomes second nature.

Letters To The Web Designer

Dear Designer,
Wouldn't it just be easier to measure the hypotenuse with a ruler??
                                                                                                   -Confuzzled

Dear Confuzzled,
Theoretically, yes. But what if the triangle is really really big? And there is no ruler that big on Earth? Then you would have to use Pythagoras' Theorem. Also, if you are doing it in a textbook, then sometimes they might say that the length of one of the sides is 6 meters when it is really 2.6453990839838883198382838382382382382 that's-all-oh-wait-there's-more-56745457991 inches. My advice to you is to quit it with the loopholes, sit down in an easy chair with a scientific calculator and a cup of hot chocolate, and DO YOUR MATH!!!!!!!

Dear Designer,
Can I do this to triangles other than right triangles??
                                                                             -Because I want to

Dear Because I want to
No. It has to be a right triangle. Sorry, Because I Want To.

Wait! Stop! I have a question!!!!!

1. Multiply a number by its self.
2. DIvide a number by its self.
3. Not for "a" or "b" but "c" is always the side whose length is unknown.
4. Smarty Pants.
5. I am not sure I can see the "other" answers, but I will do what I can.
